Chittagong lose to Dhaka Metro even in last 1-dayer |

Dhaka--(UNB) – Degraded Chittagong Division finished their Second National Cricket League campaign swallowing a huge 179-run defeat against Dhaka Metropolis in the limited-over match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday(Wednesday). Last year’s champions Chittagong became runners-up in the prestigious league with 44 points despite losing four points in the last round four-day match and one-day to newcomer Dhaka Metropolis, who raised their tally to 42 points. National Test skipper Naimur Rahman Durjoy played the key role for Metro in earning the huge victory as the right-arm off spinner hauled five wickets to dismiss Chittagong Division for 139 runs in 33.4 overs in reply to a towering 318 runs. Naimur finished his fabulous bowling figure with 8.4-0-35-5 and got good support from pacer Ashique Majumder who picked up three wickets for 28 runs in 10 overs. Number nine batsman Imran Haider Ripon helped Chittagong Division cross hundred mark making a dizzy 50 runs off 38 balls that featured nine boundaries. Earlier, riding on four glittering half centuries, Dhaka Metropolis set a daunting task for Chittagong scoring a mammoth 318 runs for 7 wickets in stipulated 50 overs at the mat-turf. National batsman Al Shahriar Rokon, who batted at number four, played a scintillating 70-run knock facing 69 deliveries that featured nine boundaries. He was later adjudged man of the match for the one-day. After deciding to bat first, Metropolis made a poor start as young Mohammad Ashraful, who was adjudged man of the match for four-day for his tremendous all round performance, bowled by Anisur in the last ball of the very first over with scoreboard reading only six runs. National opener Mehrab Hossain Opee and Mafizul Islam brilliantly repaired the early damage associating 122 runs in the second wicket stand. Test cap Opee hammered 52 runs off 57 balls with seven hits across the rope while his partner Mafizul contributed 54 off 74 deliveries, including seven boundaries. Metro captain and former national all rounder Khaled Mahmud Sujon sparkled in the last 10 overs to reach the huge total. The right-handed dashing batsman played 35 runs to make an unbeaten 57 runs with five fours and two sixes. Suja Erfan was the most successful bowler for Chittagong claiming two wickets for 42 runs while Anisur Rahman, Minhajul Abedin Nannu and Azam Iqbal took one wicket each.
